Lower Saxony, Germany

In the morning we headed off toward Germany to meet an old friend of Richards. Belgium, Holland and Germany all in torrential rain. I know there will be times when we will wish we were on the bike, today is not one them! I am fighting the throat.

A long days driving before we reach the home of Michael and Jutta in Lower Saxony. The long drive was partly due to a small dispute between us and the sat nav! To believe it or not!! The sat nav was probably right after all!!! That plus road works and Richard not having quite got into "Fay mode" and thinking we could cover the same distances as we do on the bike.

It was the first time I had met Michael and Jutta, they made us very welcome and there was a cold beer waiting for us as soon as we stepped through the door. Jutta had cooked a lovely meal and their daughter Innis practiced her very good English language skills. Michael and Jutta thought theirs were rusty, only they thought this, we were very impressed.

We had a lovely evening, eating, talking and drinking long into the wee small hours. In a something less than sober fashion we went to bed at 3am. Having all decided we should stay a couple of days, there was no need to think about what time we would need to get up.

Mon 11th Aug

We missed this morning! We didn't wake up until mid-day. After a delicious continental brunch, we went for a walk with Michael, Jutta and the dogs: Orla and Hippy. They showed us some their favourite places and the wild life of the moor. Jutta has been involved in the design of many places locally and in promoting the wildlife. The bad weather passed and we had lovely day.

In the evening we all went to a local hotel for dinner and even I was able able to recall some schoolgirl German. Not such a late night, we are planning to leave tomorrow. Having detoured north to see Michael and Jutta we must start to head south on our way to Istanbul.
